Choosing between Braces and Invisalign
If you are in need of orthodontic treatment, it can be hard to decide between braces and Invisalign. There are pros and cons associated with each method.
Traditional metal braces are strong enough to offer the orthodontist the freedom to correct pretty much any orthodontic issue that you may be affecting you. They also tend to be the cheapest option. Unfortunately, braces involve wearing metal brackets and wires on your teeth for up to several years. Many people, especially adult professionals, do not necessarily wish to advertise to the world that they are undergoing orthodontic treatment. Since braces are highly visible, there is really no way of hiding the fact, though. Also, food tends to get trapped in between the brackets and wires, making proper oral hygiene more difficult.
Invisalign offers an invisible and removable alternative to braces. Instead of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a system of clear plastic aligners in order to straighten teeth. Since the aligners are effectively invisible while they are being worn, it is unlikely anyone will even notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. The removable element allows the patient to eat whatever they desire during treatment, in addition to allowing the patient to maintain their oral health simply by brushing and flossing their teeth like normal. Invisalign is able to correct a wide range of orthodontic issues, but overly complex cases may require treatment with braces. Furthermore, patients must wear their aligners for 20-22 hours a day during treatment, so discipline is a key to successful Invisalign treatment.
